Abstract
"I will briefly review the James Webb Space Telescope, highlight the major phases of on-orbit commissioning and the major conclusions from its commissioning program. I will provide an up to date mission status, and describe early science results with particular focus on high-redshift science". Dr. Massimo Stiavelli has led the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Mission Office atthe Space Telescope Science Institute since 2012. In 2022 he received the NASA Outstanding Public Leadership Award for his role in managing the STScI JWST work. Hejoined the Institute in 1995 and served as a European Space Agency astronomer for thefirst five years. Dr. Stiavelli led the team that carried out the Hubble Ultra Deep Fieldsurvey and has extensive experience in all aspects of modern astronomical research,from theory and observations to instrument development. In 2018 he was elected aFellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and in 2021 he waselected a Foreign Fellow of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (the italian premierNational Science Academy).
