EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The PhD Program in Technologies for Fundamental Research in Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Padova offers a broad range of multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and interdisciplinary courses taught by both internal and external lecturers.
PhD students are required to attend the courses they consider most relevant to their training, preferably during the first two years of the program. One credit corresponds to 8 hours of lectures.
At the end of each course, the lecturer issues a certificate or sends an email to the PhD Secretariat (phdnazionale.dfa@unipd.it), confirming attendance and the successful completion of a final exam.
Each PhD student must attend at least 4 of the courses offered and accumulate at least 10 credits, i.e. (approximately) 80 hours of lectures;
Each student must attend at least one School;
One or two courses may be replaced by a School;
The PhD student is invited to participate in the national days of the PhD TFPA;
The PhD student is invited to participate in the guided tours of the PhD TFPA.
In agreement with the supervisors, the student may enrich the training activity where the particular project requires specific skills to be acquired. The training obligation is therefore intended as a training basis, and no further propaedeutic, characterising or supplementary training activities are restricted.
In agreement with the supervisors, the student can attend courses that are not part of the Educational Offer presented below. In order to do so, the student must send an email to require the pertinent Curriculum Coordinator's approval, to be sure that the course can be part of their Study Plan. The PhD Secretariat (phdnazionale.dfa@unipd.it) must always be cc'd in these communications.
Periods of study and research abroad are always strongly reccommended.

ADMISSION TO THE FOLLOWING YEAR
The procedure for admission to the following year of the PhD Program in Technologies for Fundamental Research in Physics and Astrophysics requires each student to submit a written report describing the research activities carried out during the year. The report must be approved and signed by the supervisors. The template is available here.
Every year, in the first half of September, a workshop is organized where PhD students are required to present their work to their Curriculum Coordinator and to their fellow doctoral students.
During the workshop, you will be asked to make a presentation, in which you should report on:
- the research topic and objectives of your PhD program;
- the overall planning that will enable you to complete the 3-years doctoral program with the timely submission of the final thesis at the end;
- the courses, the exams and other training activities (e.g. Schools) that you have taken during the year and are planning to take in the following one;
- the research activities carried out so far and those planned for the future;
- any other academic achievement you wish to present.
All organizational details will be communicated in the weeks leading up to the event.
